Education Support and Gifted and Talented Programs

ISMS has a distinct approach for identifying students with learning needs and implementing early intervention strategies in close collaboration with parents.

Our educators work collaboratively to:

  • Differentiate and create resources and reasonable adjustments;
  • Provide individually tailored programs and one-on-one support as needed;
  • Assist with organisational strategies, study techniques and assessments;
  • Manage disability provisions.

Our Curriculum Coordinator, working closely with our Learning and Support Coordinator, tracks students’ progress across the School and manages extra support for students with learning needs and those who would benefit from extension.

There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community.

Gifted and talented students

The ISMS approach for gifted and talented students addresses their specific learning needs and can include; a faster pace, a degree of abstraction, and critical and creative thinking while processing more complex information. These all challenge the students to develop strategies for persevering with complex problems and ensuring continual student engagement.

As a learning community, ISMS values the diverse gifts of its students. We provide a supportive learning environment where gifts can be recognised and nurtured so that talent and academic potential is developed.

We must let the child walk and notice how he walks. His legs are short in comparison to ours and therefore he walks more slowly. Not only this, but the child explores the environment.
