Infant Community Program
The greatness of the human potential begins at the hour of birth. Our Infant Community provides a Montessori experience from pregnancy to 3 years of age.
Montessori Nest for Expectant Parents
This is a unique service offering families support and understanding of the newborn. Montessori stated that education should begin at birth.
While many new families attend classes about pregnancy and delivery, at ISMS we provide a service offering guidance from the moment of delivery and beyond.
Babies don’t arrive with a guide book and many new parents today don’t have a ‘village’ around them to help guide them along this new journey. Even with the support of family and friends becoming a new parent or even a second time parent can be a steep learning curve.
Nido and Toddler Transition
(0 – 20 months)
Parents and their babies meet weekly (for one and a half hour) in a nurturing environment to share knowledge about human development, experiences and ideas. Topics discussed include feeding, sleeping, toileting, the importance of brain and language development, hand-eye coordination and movement, to name but a few.
Classes run 9:00am to 10:30am (Toddler Transition) or 1:00pm to 2:30pm (Nido) during term time.
Parent Toddler Program (PTP) (20 – 36 months)
PTP is a two hour weekly session for parents and their toddlers who engage in a range of activities in a specially prepared environment. Parents are offered practical suggestions concerning the application of Montessori principles in the home and benefit from observing their child using these principles in the classroom. The program responds to the child’s absorbent mind and strong sense of order, which is particular to this age group.
Classes run from 9:00am to 11:00am during term time.
Transition to Stage 1
The Transition to Stage 1 program is a chance for the child to prepare for the move into Stage 1, Montessori Pre Primary. It is an invitation-only program and each child is considered for placement based on specific criteria relating to a confirmed offer in Stage 1. There are two groups hosted each week – one group that runs every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:45am – 12:15pm; and the other every Thursday and Friday from 8:45am – 12:15pm. Children enrolled in this program attend both days each week in their respective group. Children may attend both groups and therefore attend for four days (morning sessions) each week.
Children experience freedom in the classroom to choose the materials they want to use and work independently. Three trained staff act as guides, presenting work when necessary and ensuring the prepared environment meets all their needs. It is the Director’s role to observe the child and then guide them to achieve their full potential.
