Community Engagement
Communitas: from the Latin for fellowship and shared purpose.
Communitas is the Parents & Friends community at Inner Sydney Montessori School (ISMS). It’s a place for parents, carers, friends and alumni to come together, get involved and stay connected with our Montessori school community in Balmain.
We connect our families, enrich our community and our children’s experiences, support our teachers and staff, and help create a place where every family can belong.
Sometimes that means coming along to an event or catching up over coffee. It might mean lending a hand, sharing an idea, helping with fundraising or contributing a particular skill. There are lots of ways to be part of Communitas, and no expectation that everyone participates in the same way.
Community
Communitas creates opportunities for families to get to know one another, spend time together and feel part of the wider ISMS community.
From informal catch-ups to school events and shared activities, it’s about creating more opportunities to connect, whether you’ve just joined ISMS or have been part of the school for years.
Fundraising
Our fundraising activities are a practical way for families and friends to contribute to the school.
The funds we raise go back into ISMS, supporting new resources, better facilities, richer opportunities for every child.
Alumni Engagement
The friendships and connections made at ISMS don’t have to end when students leave the school.
We’d like Communitas to help keep those connections going, giving past students and families ways to stay in touch with ISMS, reconnect with one another and continue to be part of the community in the years ahead.
Staff Support
Our teachers and staff give a great deal to our children and our school community.
Communitas gives families a way to support them too, whether through practical help, community initiatives or simply taking the time to recognise and appreciate what they do each day.
Join Us
We’d love you to be part of Communitas.
There’s no minimum commitment and no single way to get involved. You might have an idea you’d like to share, a useful connection, a particular skill or an hour to volunteer. Or you might simply want to come along to an event and meet some other families.
Some people get involved regularly, while others lend a hand when they can. Both are equally welcome.

Upcoming ISMS Community Events
Punch Park Party
Friday 11 September, 3.00 pm at Punch Park
Come and join other ISMS families for a relaxed afternoon at Punch Park after school.
There’ll be games, snacks and plenty of room for the children to play, while parents and carers have a chance to catch up and get to know one another.
All families are welcome, including those whose children aren’t at school that day.
It’s a casual get-together, but an RSVP will help us know how many people to expect. Just email communitas@isms.nsw.edu.au to let us know you’re coming.
Brew and Banter
Come along and connect with your community. Join us for a relaxed Coffee and Chat morning near the servery in the Diramu (Primary Playground), held on the first and last Wednesday of each term.
Coffee, tea (including herbal options) and a light snack will be provided, all you need to bring is yourself and a friendly hello.
